ICL Overview
Implantable contact lenses (ICL) have many benefits over other types of eye corrective procedures. This type of eye correction does not make changes to the eye lens, can be reversed, and involves minimal risk.
ICL is a procedure in which the surgeon will implant contact lenses on top of the eye’s lens. Instead of placing a contact lens on your eye, the lenses will be surgically implanted so your vision is permanent. This is beneficial because you won’t have to worry about cleaning your contacts and taking them in and out every day. You can have your contact lens vision permanently. The great thing about this surgery is that your eye remains in place and the lens in your eye is not cut or changed in any way.
ICL is an eye corrective procedure that can be reversed. If at any point in time it is not working for you or you notice some type of side effect you want to change, you can! The lenses can be removed from your eyes and your eyes can be restored back to their original condition any time. It isn’t common for people to have problems with implantable lenses, but if you want to reverse the procedure, it can be done. People who undergo surgeries like LASIK cannot reverse the procedure once it is performed.
Every surgical procedure has some type of risk associated with it. The good news with ICL is that the risk levels are minimal. Rarely do patients experience any type of complication with an implantable contact lens. Some of the issues that are correctable include repositioning the lens, adjusting the intensity of the prescription, and damage to the lens.
ICL is a corrective eye procedure which permanently places contact lenses on the eyes. This works for most people and provides many benefits because there is very little risk, it can be reversed, and the eye is not physically changed.
