Understanding the Cost of Cataract Surgery

As you explore your treatment options for achieving improved vision, understanding the cost of cataract surgery is extremely important. At our Bakersfield practice, we believe that each of our patients deserves crisp, clear vision, regardless of their financial situation. Our doctors offer treatment plans and payment options to suit each patient's needs so that everyone can enjoy clear eyesight. Our individualized approach to care means total treatment cost varies on a case-by-case basis. Determining Your Cost

The cost of your cataract surgery will depend on several factors, including the severity of the cataract, the type of intraocular lens (IOL) you need, and whether or not you will receive limbal relaxing incisions, which reshape the border between the cornea and the white of the eye. To suit our patients' diverse needs, we offer three different packages:

  • If you have 20/20 vision or a low degree of astigmatism, we will implant a standard IOL (which is mono-focal, meaning it will focus on only one point). If you suffer from a low degree of astigmatism, this package can also include limbal relaxing incisions along with lens placement.
  • If you suffer from more severe astigmatism, your eye will require a premium toric IOL.
  • If you have both astigmatism and hyperopia (farsightedness) or myopia (nearsightedness), you will receive a multifocal IOL, which allows you to focus on objects near, immediate, and far.

Cataract surgery is an investment in your future happiness and health.

Invest in Precise Correction

If you are undergoing surgery to remove cataracts and restore your vision, an inaccurately placed IOL or serious complication not only reduces the effectiveness of your treatment, it can also require costly corrections. Laser cataract surgery is worth the extra cost because it offers a high level of precision during every step of the procedure. There are four major benefits to laser cataract surgery:

  • The increased accuracy during the creation of limbal relaxing incisions lessens the risk for over- or under- correction of astigmatism.
  • Our femtosecond laser creates reproducible circular capsulotomies, which ensures that the implant is placed centrally with minimal tilt. This reduces light-induced aberrations like halo and glare.
  • We fragment your natural lens before aspiration, which produces less irritation to the eye than ultrasound fragmentation.
  • Precise fragmentation allows us to aspirate the natural lens more efficiently for decreased irritation and reduced recovery time.
